Asahi, Japan’s No. 1 beer brand, and Zuma, a contemporary Japanese restaurant, have teamed together to mirror a nighttime al-fresco ‘Yokocho’ experience. From October 12 till the end of the year, Zuma will transport guests to the back alleyways of Japan with an eclectic modern touch.
The term ‘Yokocho’ refers to secret alleyways located off Japan’s main city streets that are crowded with tiny and local izakayas, pubs, and eateries. Yokocho constitutes an essential part of Japan’s nightlife culture. These are particularly prominent in metropolitan areas like Tokyo and Osaka.
To recreate the ideal Yokocho atmosphere, Zuma’s terrace is decked with dimly lit crimson lanterns, bright neon lights, and a distinctive Tokyo-style bicycle. Besides that, the patio is strewn with memorabilia relating to the backstreets of Tokyo.
This is perfect for visitors to capture picturesque moments of their interpretation of a Japanese night out. By going the additional mile, this pop-up embodies the spirit of the Yokocho drinking experience. Additionally, visitors may relax at custom-built bar tables built from red beer crates or choose a spot under the shade of maple trees.
Asahi-inspired Menu
With a carefully designed menu featuring sake-Asahi beer pairings and robatayaki skewers, the ‘Yokocho’ experiential patio pop-up is the city’s latest go-to attraction. Setting Zuma’s Executive chef and his staff apart from the rest, are their modern izakaya specialties.
Some of the highlights from the Asahi x Zuma Yokocho-edition menu are Homemade Japanese Pickles, Rockshrimp Tempura with Chili Mayonnaise. As well as a variety of Robatayaki grilled snacks including Lamb skewers with Spicy Hatcho Miso, Octopus with Arima Sancho Pepper, and Hokkaido Scallops with Ume Boshi Butter and Sea Urchin. The culinary team also offers a classic Japanese appetizer, Salt Roasted Edamame. Exhibits classic Japanese flavors. A simple dish seasoned perfectly that easily pleases.

For example, the soft flesh in the Pepper Lamb skewers goes well with the slightly burnt taste. The presence of hot peppers nestled in between the sweet and savory flavors of the marinade provides this cult favorite a fiery kick. Second, the Crispy Fried Squid with Green Chilies and Fresh Lime Juice is a wonderful option that is not overly rubbery and chewy. The squid has a light texture and batter and is citrusy with a little spicy punch.
Finally, the Chefs at Zuma cook the Garlic Butter Tiger Prawns to perfection. The mild garlic butter flavoring brings out the prawn’s naturally sweet aromas. The chef presents as a whole, giving it a visceral experience. The Glazed Pork Belly with Apple Miso Mustard is the menu’s last standout item. The succulent, juicy pork has been delicately roasted to give it a delicate smokiness. Thus, complementing the apple miso mustard’s delicious tanginess. Between the layers, the rendered fat adds juiciness without seeming too excessive.
Drinks

Furthermore, serving drinks such as Zuma House Daiginjo sake, Dassai “23 percent” Junmai Daiginjo sake, and Asahi Super Dry. These are the beverages among the sake and beer pairings offered on the Asahi x Zuma Yokocho menu, inspired by the Karakuchi flavor of Asahi Super Dry and its sake-influenced beginnings. Diners may enjoy a perfect pour with the innovative Asahi Super Dry auto pour technology. Hence providing a perfect Karakuchi experience with a golden 7:3 ratio of beer to foam.
The Zume House Daiginjo Sake is smooth and mildly sweet, finding it difficult to detect that it contains 40% alcohol. Dasai Sake, on the other hand, has more robust and distinct characteristics and is more full-bodied. With a lower alcohol concentration. Finally, the Sakura High Ball is another interesting beverage here. A floral, refreshing drink that isn’t overwhelming. As a result, it’s a good drink to unwind with.
